PARK Chan-wook's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (Chinjeorhan Geumjassi, 2005) will premiere in the Netherlands on December 28, 2006. The Filmmuseum in Amsterdam programmed all three of PARK's 'vengeance trilogy' films as part of the premiere of "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". Therefore, "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" (Boksooneun naui geot, 2001) will also have its Dutch premiere, only "Old Boy" (2003) was released in Dutch cinemas before.
Dutch film critics seem to agree that "Old Boy" was the masterpiece in the trilogy, but emphasize that Lady Vengeance has many qualities too. Special attention is paid to the esthetics of PARK's visual style and the dark humor. The film will have a small release in the Netherlands.
