Studio Dragon Sits Amidst Global K-Drama Wave

Studio Dragon, CJ ENM's production subsidiary, announced on the 21st that its works have been ranked in the popularity rankings announced on global content platforms.

In fact, many of the works that Studio Dragon participated in this year's production were ranked in the global rankings.

First of all, in the first half of this year's ratings released by Netflix on the 12th, six works by Studio Dragon, including ▲ "The Glory" (3rd), ▲ "Crash Course in Romance" (16th), ▲ "Alchemy of Souls" (41th), ▲ "Mr. Queen" (45th), ▲ "Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow" (47th), ▲ "Crash Landing on You" (73rd), were ranked in the top 100.

Of the 15 Korean dramas and entertainment works in Netflix's top 100, 40% (6) were produced by Studio Dragon. In particular, "The Glory" recorded 622.8 million viewers in the first half of this year alone, ranking third in viewing time among 18,214 Netflix content.

In addition, a total of 36 Korean dramas were included in the 'Global TOP10 Series (non-English)' released by Netflix every week, up from 32 a year earlier. Among them, Studio Dragon accounted for 44% (16 dramas), drawing attention.

In addition to the top 100 movies in Netflix's first half of the year, Studio Dragon has put top-notch works such as ▲ "See You In My 19th Life" ▲ "Lies Hidden in My Garden" ▲ "Celebrity" ▲ "Doona!" ▲ "Castaway Diva" ▲ "Sweet Home - Season 2" on Netflix's global weekly list.

According to the 2023 U-NEXT Popular Works Ranking announced by U-NEXT on the 14th, Studio Dragon's ▲ "True Beauty" (1st) ▲ "My Lovely Liar" (3rd) ▲ "Shooting Star" (6th) ▲ "Doom at Your Service" (7th) was ranked in the top 10 in the Korean Wave and Asia category. In particular, "My Lovely Liar" ranked first in 141 countries, including Europe, the Americas, and Oceania, when the Rakuten Vicky platform broadcasted.

In addition, "Island - Drama", produced by Studio Dragon, ranked in the top 10 in the world for the first time in K-content in January, and "Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938", which was released in May of the same year, also ranked in the top 10 in 37 countries.

Based on the OTT ranking website 'Flix Patrol', season 1 of the self-produced U.S. drama "The Big Door Prize", which was released through Apple TV Plus (+) in March, ranked in the top 10 of Apple TV+ in more than 100 countries around the world. In particular, the drama gained huge popularity in North America, the U.K., and Australia, ranking in the top three of Apple TV+. Season 2 of "The Big Door Prize", which was produced thanks to favorable reviews in season 1, is set to be released next year.

Leading overseas media are also scrambling to announce this year's ranking of Korean dramas, shedding light on the K-drama craze. According to the "20 Best Korean Dramas of 2023" selected by the U.S. economic magazine Forbes on the 15th, several studio-dragon dramas were listed, including ▲ "The Glory" ▲ "Crash Course in Romance" ▲ "Duty After School" ▲ "Lies Hidden in My Garden" ▲ "My Lovely Liar" ▲ "Castaway Diva".
