[Aisha's Take] "Dream - 2020": A Story About Compassion And Football

"Dream - 2020" is a 2023 sports movie which created a great deal of hype even before its release. Mainly by starring Park Seo-joon and IU, one of the leading stars in the Korean industry.

But the movie has a lot more to offer than a stunning cast. It's a whole roller-coaster ride! One may experience love, sorrow and joy throughout the movie and a surge of passion running through your veins. "Dream - 2020" tells the story of Yoon Hong-dae (Park Seo-joon), a soccer player who finds himself in an unexpected mess- a scandalous one. In order to 'redeem' himself, he accepts to star in a documentary where he has to train a team of homeless men to compete in the World Cup.

Each character had a story of their own. No one was more pitiful than the other. They all shared struggles of their own and coped with them in their own way. The wavelength of their struggles was not compared and that makes the story even more beautiful.

Lee  So-min (Lee Ji-eun) was the one directing the film. Though we did not have a sympathising story behind her like others, she still was someone working hard to get through life. She had debts and a job life. But unlike Hong-dae, she faces the problem ahead whilst he hides. Or perhaps, he was always forced to. His mother was on the run after scamming people and this tarnished his reputation. After losing control, before a reporter, he had to participate in the documentary to redeem himself, but it seemed as if the media was not ready to let go of him.

Everyone's story depended on the documentary. Each one of them wanted to shine and find themselves, and soccer did that for them. Soccer has become more than just a sport. As they worked together and shared emotions, they became closer- a family even!

"Dream - 2020" beautifully delivers these emotions beyond the screen and unites the viewers with them. The heart-warming movie will perhaps leave you in tears, but that of happiness. It's available on Netflix and we recommend you to watch it now.
