[HanCinema's News] Park Min-young Apologizes for Role in Bithumb Scandal

"Marry My Husband" is the latest television drama from actress Park Min-young, who despite her popularity, did not appear in any television dramas over 2023. A recent press event for "Marry My Husband" shed some light on why. In September 2022, a news report that Park Min-young had entered into a romantic relationship with a Bithumb executive was corrected only two days later when it was confirmed that the pair had broken up. The whirlwind romance was of much interest to fans.

But there were unfortunate long-term effects for Park Min-young's career beyond the gossip, when this relationship resulted in Park Min-young's name coming up and her being personally investigated by police in a Bithumb embezzlement case in ebruary of 2023. These events set a cloud over any attempt by Park Min-young to find a new acting project, with "Love in Contract" having completed in November of 2022 with uninspiring ratings of 3.059%.

Park Min-young has now addressed the controversy directly, saying that this was a bad year for her physically and mentally. Even for a short time, Park Min-young felt remorseful about not responding to an inquiry from director Park Won-gook. Park Min-young also discussed receiving psychiatric care during this time, claiming that in response to an electroencephalogram, the portion of her brain governing guilt was in a dangerous red zone.

Park Min-young said that when she is acting on set, she is beautiful, shining, and alive, and seemed to credit her return to work for the improvement in her health. Park Min-young apologized for not explaining herself earlier to the people who love her personally as well as her fans. Park Min-young said that the only answer going forward seems to be to continue focusing on her acting work to avoid getting wrapped up in other such scandals in the future.

"Marry My Husband" began airing on New Year's Day. The romantic revenge drama stars Park Min-young as a woman who travels back in time and schemes to get early vengeance on the husband and best friend who betray her. "Marry My Husband" had ratings of 5.891% in its second episode and is streaming worldwide via Netflix.
