[HanCinema's News] "Marry My Husband" Attracts Particular Attention for Romantic Subplots

With ratings of 10.518% in its most recent episode on February 6th, "Marry My Husband" has indisputedly found its fandom. Despite being headlined by Park Min-young in the leading role, however, its the many subplots of the drama that had the strongest romantic undertones that have appealed to viewers. Lee Gi-kwang and Choi Gyu-ri in particular have stoked viewer interest as both minor characters have been popular and scene-stealing in their own right.

Lee Gi-kwang plays the first love of Park Min-young's lead, the most prominent character in the story to not be a member of the corporate food marketing team. Though his efforts to rekindle a relationship with the leading lady haven't worked out, Choi Gyu-ri as a junior member of the first marketing team has proven compelling as an alternative. Her serious eyes, light tone, and colorful expressions and tendency toward misunderstandings have made her character a favorite among the show's fans.

Nor are these two the first subcouple in the series. The second leads Lee Yi-kyung and Song Ha-yoon thesmelves held their own wedding in a recent episode, prompting the two lower-billed cast members to have some keen interactions. Indeed, despite the premise of "Marry My Husband" being as antiromantic as possible, centering as it does on revenge, the actual tone of the drama is remarkably positive when it comes to love stories.

In ways like this, "Marry My Husband" stands as a reminder as to the importance of strong ensembles, with supporting characters who have their own backstories, motivations, and opportunities to take center stage to help serve as a contrast to more central characters. Prompting speculation as to who might end up together, after all, is an excellent way to make any story engaging. New episodes of "Marry My Husband" premiere on Mondays and Tuesdays on tvN.
