[HanCinema's News] Lee Jun-young Marks Aggressive Turn to Acting

Lee Jun-young is perhaps best-known for his work as a singer with the group UKISS where he was better known under the stage name Jun. But Lee Jun-young left UKISS in 2021 following the expiration of his contract, signing up with Jflex in that year for the express purpose of focusing on his acting career. Already a leading man in minor projects like "Let Me Be Your Knight" from 2021, Jplex has made the most of Lee Jun-young's more high profile appearance in "Love and Leashes" on Netflix.

Lee Jun-young's first leading role in a major drama, "May I Help You?" in the fourth quarter of 2022, did not lead to particularly strong success. Opening with 3.9% ratings and closing with 3.2% ratings, "May I Help You?" wasn't a complete disaster, but with Lee Hyeri as leading lady, it certainly could have done better. But the fantasy romance did establish that Lee Jun-young could work as an actor in tough environments, leading to a great expansion in his acting work.

Lee Jun-young will soon appear in the feature film "Brave Citizen" alongside Shin Hye-sun on October 25th, and is also expected in "Badland Hunters" with Ma Dong-seok. But Lee Jun-young also has a huge slate of new dramas. "When Life Gives You Tangerines" for Netflix, "The Impossible Heir" for Disney Plus, and "Dreaming of Cinde Fxxxing Rella" for TVing will all provide him with excellent visibility on streaming. Whether any of these shows will be hits, however, remains to be seen.
