[HanCinema's News] "12.12: The Day" Leads South Korean Box Office for Fourth Straight Week

With 1,211,803 admissions over the weekend, "12.12: The Day" has continued its remarkable run at the South Korean box office. With 8,941,052 admissions overall, "12.12: The Day" is now certain to break the nine million viewer mark and may yet break ten million viewers on the strength of its unusually long popularity. "12.12: The Day" now has the best fourth week admissions of any film at the South Korean box office.

Second place is now the American animated film Frozen which earned 1,171,846 admissions in its fourth weekend to a current total of 10,328,773 admissions. Third place falls to "Ode to My Father" which eventually broke the fourteen million viewer after earning 1,136,638 admissions in its fourth weekend to an eventual total of 14,265,682 admissions. Fourth place goes to "Miracle in Cell No.7" with 1,129,719 admissions in its fourth weekend to a final total of 12,812,186 admissions.

Such long-term success has not been common in recent years- "Ode to My Father" saw its theatrical release all the way back in 2014. "12.12: The Day" has been boosted by extremely positive domestic reception. The late seventies set political military dramas holdis self-reporting viewer ratings of 9.59 on Naver, 9.6 on the Megabox website, 9.7 on the Lotte Cinema website, and 99% positive response on the CGV website.

Purportedly significant filmgoers have even watched the movie late seventies political military drama multiple times to further boost admissions of those watching for the first time. But for all these strengths, "12.12: The Day" is certain to lose its first place position to the highly anticipated "Noryang: Deadly Sea" this coming weekend. The sequel to "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" and "Hansan: Rising Dragon" will be released in South Korean theaters on December 20th.
